EDGE&TA Branch 222

Branch 14 was formed in 1985, and has approximately 350 members. Although many of its members come from states surrounding Utah, most are from what we call the Wasatch Front. That is basically from Ogden in the north, to Provo in south, with Salt Lake City in the middle.

Branch 158 is the Yolo County chapter of E.D.G.E. & T.A. It was founded in 2004 in Woodland when a few local men and women with common interests decided to start an engine club. Membership is growing and the branch regularly participates in many local and regional shows and parades. Branch 158 also holds its own shows. In April, we conduct a two-day 120 mile tractor ride, the Colusa Casino Endurance Run. Each May, the Family Farm Festival, co-sponsored by the Heidrick Ag History Center, shows threshing, plowing, and other old time activities where the public is invited to come and see how things used to be. Each August, exhibits at the Yolo County Fair feature operating engines, tractors, and other old machinery. Each October, the Yolo Tractor Ride is a 24 mile drive in which members drive their old tractors throughout scenic Yolo County.
Members of Branch 158 are dedicated to maintaining a knowledge of and an interest in early American farm equipment. To this end they individually restore and preserve a variety of equipment, participate in local parades and fairs, put on demonstrations at local schools, and support the involvement of youth in these activities. Members hope that by maintaining and exhibiting our country’s heritage in the form of working equipment they can revive the memories of an older generation and help to educate the younger generations.
Branch 158 is a member of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Assn., Inc. Individual dues for principal members are $25.00 per year. Dues for auxiliary members are $17.00 each per year. Spouses and dependent children from 12 to 18 years old of principal members are considered auxiliary members. New members joining during each membership period will be considered members through the end of that period. Those with membership in a different EDGE & TA branch, may join Branch 158 with full membership privileges for $12.00 per year along with proof of membership (i.e., photocopy of card) in the other branch. Dues become due and payable on January 1st and are delinquent if not paid by April 15th.
Dues may be paid by mailing a check payable to EDGE&TA, Branch 158 along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope (principal and auxiliary members only) to Branch 158, c/o Sue Westwood, 310 Cross St., Woodland, CA 95695.
The Baling Wire is a newsletter to provide Br. 158 members with reports of past events, calendar of coming events, letters, ads, club information, and tips for the restoration and preservation of vintage farm, mining, construction, and related machinery. There is no charge for ads in the Baling Wire. All ads must be related to antique engines/tractors. For sale ads will be accepted from anyone, regardless of EDGE & TA membership. Wanted ads will be accepted only from EDGE & TA members. Your input for the Baling Wire is most welcome. Send to John Boehm, Editor, 14151 County Road 98A, Woodland, CA 95695-9134; Phone 530-668-9410, Fax 530-661-6744, e-mail: [email protected].

Treasure State Flywheelers started back in 1979 in Great Falls, Montana. Where a group of men and women dedicated to preserving some of the past, acquired and restored antique tractors and stationary engines. At first these people met with each other because they had similar interest and hobbies. They would get together at someone’s shop and fix or repair someone’s flywheel engine or tractor. Soon they decided they should form a club and see about incorporating it. So in 1981, the Treasure State Flywheelers became incorporated.
The club is formally active in many areas and most of our members also take part in other club events. Each year some of our members take part in the Teton Antique Steam & Gas Threshing Bee, located in Choteau, Montana. With many events happening all over the United States, we try to attend as many as possible.
The Treasure State Flywheelers primary show is held each year at the Montana State Fair in Great Falls Montana. Many stationary engines, tractors, and other machinery are displayed and operated to show people how rural America lived and worked.
The show is a good place to relive the past and welcome friends, both old and new, and to have a good time reminiscing about bygone days.
Each year we try to involve more participation and members to our club. We are always looking for new members and old iron. If you or someone you know is interested in these pursuits, please contact us. Old iron is becoming scarcer with each passing day, so if you have something that you don’t know what to do with give any member a call, donations are always appreciated.
The Treasure State Flywheelers meet on the first Sunday of every month, unless noted. The annual dues are $40.00 dollars per year. Are you interested in or are you restoring a stationary engine or an antique tractor. We would like to hear about your project. Please feel free to contact one of the members at (406) 736-5463 or 727-5235
