In early 1988 there were three men, Robert Moore, Joe Hardin, and Bruce Dawson, who got together to discuss the formation of an Antique Engine and Tractor Club. A meeting date of March 7th, 1988 at 7PM was decided upon and was held at the Ramada Inn in West Plains and the ads were ran in the local papers. There were twenty-nine people that attended that 1st meeting.
The first officers were selected and they were Ed Roinenen (President), Bruce Dawson (Vice-President), Gary Underwood (Secretary-Treasurer), and Joe Hardin (Safety Officer). It was decided to try and affiliate the club with the National Organization of Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Organization “EDGE & TA”. As a result Branch 28 became a reality and was named “Ozarks Older Iron Club”.
The first shows were held at the Heart of the Ozarks Fairgrounds in West Plains, MO. Later the shows were moved to Cabool, MO. At the Chamber of Commerce grounds. In 2001 the Ozarks Older Iron Club purchased 38 acres adjacent to the Chamber of Commerce grounds in Cabool and began construction of permanent buildings and facilities. Our current membership stands at approximately 100 dues paying members.
We currently have on grounds our clubhouse, a sawmill shed, a blacksmith and wheelwright area, 2 large storage and display areas, a lighted pulling track, and we have plans for more additions in the near future.
Meetings are the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at the club grounds and guests and new memberships are always welcome.
