Dave Ueland EDGETA Branch 13 - 1942 - 1999

By Jeff and Diane Wallom

Dave Ueland 57, of Acampo, Calif., passed away August 28,1999. Dave and Paul McDonald, a boat captain, were transporting a 40 ft. cabin cruiser from Ventura to Stockton for Dave’s companion, Patty Kaul of Lodi. August 28, some fishermen sighted the boat, with the deceased men, on the rocks near Avila Beach, in San Luis Obispo County. Coast Guard officials believe the men died in the cabin of the boat of apparent carbon monoxide fumes.

Dave was a member of the Early Days Gas Engine & Tractor Association, Branch 13. Antique gas engines were his favorite pastime. Dave and Patty attended many gas engine shows, where they were always found next to Frank Ferguson and Otis Dodge’s engine displays. Dave and Steve Zimbelmann would often be found at the Taunton’s Gas Up, in Galt, operating “Big Jake”, a 75 HP Fairbanks, Morse Diesel engine. Dave and Steve proudly blew smoke rings from “Big Joke’s” exhaust pipe for all to enjoy.

Dave Ueland was a 1960 graduate of Lodi High School. He was employed as a bus mechanic by Lodi Unified School District. He was happy, easy going, fun, and well liked by all who knew him. Dave is survived by his daughter Tamra Ueland, mother Lorraine Ueland., brother Wilfred Ueland, and his companion of 15 years, Patty Kaul. A private grave side service was held at Glenview Cemetery in Clements on September 3.
